Privacy Policy
Effective October 16, 2026
Overview
SunPal does not require an account and does not sell personal information. The app uses the information needed to provide its weather, UV, location, notification, and radar features, and it shows a single banner advertisement served by Google AdMob, as described below.
Location information
If you grant permission, SunPal obtains your device location to select a nearby forecast and center maps and radar. You may decline or revoke this permission at any time. Saved and recently selected locations are stored on your device. Your location is sent to Apple Weather to retrieve forecasts for that place. Live radar and cloud requests identify map regions rather than creating a SunPal user profile. SunPal never shares your location, UV, sun-exposure, or vitamin D estimates with advertisers.
Information processed by services
SunPal uses Apple Weather (WeatherKit) for current conditions, forecasts, sunrise and sunset times, UV index, and weather alerts; Apple Maps for maps and place search; and public NOAA/NWS services for precipitation radar and NOAA GOES satellite imagery. Radar and cloud requests pass through Google Firebase Cloud Functions. Firebase App Check uses Apple App Attest to verify that requests come from a genuine copy of the app. These providers may process network information such as IP address, device or request identifiers, map regions, and operational logs under their own policies.
On-device information
Saved locations, the selected location, onboarding state, and app preferences are stored locally on your device. SunPal uses local notifications only when you choose to set a sun-exposure timer. Removing the app deletes its locally stored information, subject to Apple’s device and backup behavior.
Analytics, advertising, and sharing
SunPal displays banner ads through the Google Mobile Ads SDK (Google AdMob). SunPal requests non-personalized ads and does not enable SunPal-based ad personalization. Google may collect device and network information, such as IP address, device identifiers, approximate location derived from IP address, and ad interaction and diagnostic data, to deliver ads, measure performance, and prevent fraud, as described in Google’s policies at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Where required by law, such as in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, SunPal asks for your consent through Google’s consent message, and you can change your choice in SunPal Settings. You can turn ads display off in SunPal Settings. SunPal does not include Firebase Analytics and does not sell personal information. Information is otherwise shared only with service providers as necessary to deliver the features described above, comply with law, or protect the service from abuse.
Retention and security
SunPal does not maintain user accounts or a developer-operated database of saved locations. Service providers may retain limited security and operational logs according to their own policies. Reasonable safeguards, including encrypted network connections and Firebase App Check, are used to protect requests.
Children
SunPal is a general-audience weather and wellness app and is not directed to children for the purpose of collecting personal information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and SunPal does not request ads personalized for children.
Your choices
You can manage location and notification permissions in iOS Settings, remove saved locations in SunPal, or delete the app to remove locally stored app data.
Policy changes and contact
This policy may be updated as SunPal changes. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are published. Questions may be sent to keithggauvin@gmail.com.
